Rome police said Thursday that they are charging the driver of a bicycle, Richard Higdon, 58, who was struck by a car Wednesday.

Police said that Higdon was riding his bicycle along the sidewalk on North 5th AVenue when he made a turn and attempted to cross the road.

It was then he traveled into the path of a Nissan Sentra and was struck.

 

Police said that while checking Hidgon he found a glass pipe containing suspected methamphetamine.

The officer also had numerous items attached to it, including a nearly empty bottle of alcohol.

Hidgon was transported by EMS to Floyd Medical Center, where he was treated and released.

He is charged with riding his bicycle on the sidewalk, failure to yield, and possession of methamphetamine.
