James Mitchell Couzzourt, 46 of Rome, was arrested on Tuesday after he was found loitering near a doctor’s office on Riverbend Drive.
Reports said that police were called when Couzzourt “caused concern to the patients at the doctor’s office”.
Reports added that while investigating Couzzourt attempted to run from police on foot.
The officer stated that during the chase Couzzourt fled into the River, and in the process destroying the officer’s X26 taser as he went in after him.
Couzzourt is charged with obstruction of law enforcement, interference with government property, loitering and probation violation.
