Calhoun police arrested a homeless 52 year-old man, Douglas Calvin Hastings, on Sunday after he allegedly fired a shotgun at Wal-Mart.
Reports stated that police was dispatched to the store around 6:30 pm in response to a man shooting a gun into the woods near the grocery side of the store by an RV.
Police said that when they arrived on scene they found a woman who said that her boyfriend, later identified as Hastings, was firing his shotgun into the wood line in order to clear the gun.
They added that when the officers attempted to speak to Hastings he barricaded himself in the RV.
Hastings proceeded to tell officers that he would kill himself or one of the officers if they came into the room. He finally gave in to officer’s demands close to five hours later.
Hastings is charged with reckless conduct and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
