Samuel L Smith, 32 of Rome, and Jamie Dale Cooper, 45 of Lindale, was arrested near the Family Dollar in Lindale following a traffic stop.

Reports stated that after Smith was pulled over for not wearing a seat belt officers found methamphetamine that was “more than for personal consumption”.

Reports added that Smith then attempted to place some of the drugs in his mouth in an effort to hide them.  Police said that the drugs were later found while at the Floyd County Jail.

Authorities added that they also located a flare gun with ammunition inside the vehicle.

Smith is charged with possession of meth with intent to distribute, possession of meth, tampering with evidence, crossing a guard line with drugs or weapons, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and a seat belt violation.

Cooper is charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and probation violation.
