Mr. James Edwin “Jimmy” Lloyd, age 96, of Rome, passed away on Monday, June 2, 2025, at his residence.
Mr. Lloyd was born in Silver Creek, Georgia on March 15, 1929, son of the late Elder Lewis Herman Lloyd and the late Gertrude Camp Lloyd. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Quick Lloyd; brothers, Coleman (Mildred), Wallace (MaryLou), L.R. (Ruth), and Robert (Frances “Sissy”; sisters, Edrie Dorsett (Howard), Kate Hall (Carl), Daisey Merony (Lonnie), Ruby Ullman (Karl), and Sarah Goss (Bill).
Jimmy was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force where he was stationed at Andrews Air Force Base in Washington, DC. He retired after 39 years with the General Electric Company. He also ran a business named Travel Tax and later Lloyd’s Tax Service. He was an avid baseball player in his youth and he could have played professional baseball, but decided marrying his future wife, Dorothy, was more important to him. Later, he did go to the softball industrial league World Series with a team from General Electric. He umpired and coached in the recreation leagues behind the levee for several seasons and also coached the Air Condition Services team in the colt league behind the levee. Later in life, he enjoyed golf with a group from the North Rome Church of God. He did continue to play softball until after he turned 62. His son, Sandy, was an umpire in some of the games he played.
He was a member of Pleasant Hope Baptist Church for many years then later the North Rome Church of God. When he married Helen he moved to Pleasant Valley South Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Blalock Pitts Lloyd, to whom he was married on August 25, 2007; a son, Sandy Lloyd (Jan); grandchildren, Seth Lloyd (Alyson) and Kristen Fowlkes (Drew); great grandchildren, Sebastian Oliver Lloyd, Theodore Elliot Lloyd, James Grace Fowlkes, and Hudson Ray Fowlkes; many nieces and nephews, with five sisters and four brothers, there is a long list and he loved them all.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 6, 2025, at 2pm in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, with Dr. Philip May and Rev. Tom Owensby officiating. Interment will follow in Floyd Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Friday from 12:30 until 1:45pm.
Pallbearers are asked to assemble at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Friday at 1:30pm and include Sandy Lloyd, Seth Lloyd, Drew Fowlkes, Robbie Cook, James Amos, and Tim Pettyjohn. Honorary: North Rome Church of God golfing buddies.
