Mrs. Imogene “Gene” Crump Cantrell, age 85, of Rome, GA, passed away on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at a local nursing home.

     Mrs. Cantrell was born in Floyd County, GA, on May 27, 1939, daughter of the late Duff Crump and the late Alice New Crump. She was also preceded in death by 2 sisters, Kathryn White and Bea Hendrix. Mrs. Cantrell was a graduate of Pepperell High School. She worked for many years at the boys home but was mostly known for her time as a cloth inspector at Lindale Manufacturing, from which she retired. Mrs. Cantrell was a former longtime member of Fellowship Baptist Church and most recently was a member of Mt. Alto Baptist Church and was always there anytime the doors were open.

     Mrs. Cantrell was a servant at heart. She would do any and everything she could for anyone in need. Her love language was cooking food for anyone she could. Whether you were celebrating, grieving or just visiting, she used her cooking skills to bless everyone around. Mrs. Cantrell prepared meals at church for Wednesday night supper, Sunday afternoon, or any event that was taking place. She loved her “find-a-word” puzzles and was known to watch her soap operas. Mrs. Cantrell was a social butterfly who never met a stranger. Above all, her family meant everything to her and her granddaughters were the light of her life.

     Survivors include her husband, Wayne Cantrell, Rome, to whom she was married on December 23, 1965; a daughter, Kelli Cantrell Waters, Rome; 2 granddaughters, Rachel Stonecypher (Jacob), and Dicie Waters; 1 great-granddaughter, Sofia Stonecypher; numerous nieces and nephews.

     A graveside service will be held at 3pm on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, in the gazebo at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. Mr. Barry Henderson will officiate.

     The family will receive friends from 5pm until 7pm on Monday, May 12, 2025, at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel.
