Alvis C. Trotter, age 97, of Rome, Georgia, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 30, 2025. A lifelong resident of Rome, Alvis lived a life marked by faith, service, and quiet strength.
Alvis was born on September 6, 1927, daughter of the late Sidney Clifford Cochran and the late Pearl Welch Cochran. She was also preceded in death by her beloved grandson, Brad Horton; her brother, Wallace Cochran; and her sister, Blanche Tate.
She dedicated over 40 years of her professional life to banking, retiring in 1994 from SunTrust Bank as Assistant Vice President. Her career also included serving as the first woman president of the Rome Civitan Club in 1984 and contributing her time on the Board of Directors for the Star House in Rome—reflecting her heart for leadership and community service.
A devoted member of First Baptist Church of Rome for over 50 years, Alvis loved the Lord deeply and modeled that faith to her family and all who knew her.
She is survived by her daughter Debra Hughes; her grandson Ben Horton and daughter-in-law Katie Horton, and three cherished great-granddaughters: LJ, Riley, and Maddie. She also leaves behind her nephew, Stanley Tate of Carrollton, GA; nieces, Susan Cochran Brison of Manchester, GA, and Kathy Cochran of Rome, GA; and her great-niece, Karen Tate, along with many extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff and caregivers at Riverwood Senior Living, and especially the compassionate medical team, social worker, and caregivers at Amedisys Hospice Care, for their exceptional and loving care.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, May 5, 2025, at 11:00am, in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, Oaknoll Chapel, with her grandson, Ben Horton officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, Oaknoll Chapel, on Monday, May 5, 2025, from 10:00am until the hour of service.
Alvis will be remembered for her joyful spirit, her unwavering encouragement, and the love she poured into her family and community. Her legacy of faith, strength, and service lives on in those who knew and loved her.
