Authorities are currently looking into a deadly car crash that happened early Thursday morning in Chattooga County. The accident, which involved two pickup trucks, resulted in the death of a local resident and led to the arrest of one of the drivers.

At around 6:00 a.m. on April 17, 2025, Georgia State Patrol Post 38 was alerted to a crash on Georgia Highway 48 near Indian Drive. When troopers arrived, they found that the collision involved two pickup trucks, and one of the drivers had already been taken to Atrium Floyd Medical Center in Rome, Georgia.

According to the initial investigation, a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado heading west crossed the center line and collided head-on with a 1999 GMC Sierra. The impact forced both vehicles off the south side of the road.

Troopers later received word that the driver of the GMC, 51-year-old David J. Gill of Menlo, Georgia, had died from his injuries at the hospital.

The Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team (SCRT-A) was called in to assist with the investigation. The driver of the Chevrolet, identified as 47-year-old David Arnold of Trion, Georgia, was arrested at the scene. He is facing charges of second-degree vehicular homicide and failure to maintain his lane.
