Mrs. Doris Summerfield Shaffer, age 86, of Rome, GA, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, March 31, 2025.
Mrs. Shaffer was born in Looneyville, WV, on August 20, 1938, daughter of the late Leslie Summerfield and the late Snowie Casto Summerfield. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bob” Maxwell Shaffer, and by 7 siblings. Mrs. Shaffer was a devoted homemaker in every sense of the word. It was her life’s mission to make her house a home, whether she was making bread or clothes, her goal was to provide whatever her family needed. Mrs. Shaffer loved her family more anything on this side of heaven and did everything she could to make sure they were taken care of.
Mrs. Shaffer was a faithful and involved member of Pleasant Valley South Baptist Church for over 50 years. She was a part of the WMU, any women’s meetings that were happening, and taught Sunday School for many years. Mrs. Shaffer used her gifts to minister to others, which included: visiting shut-ins, making food for the bereaved, ministering to those she came in contact with, and praying for everyone. Her ministry was providing whatever she could to whomever she could, not just food but also friendship and a place to stay if it was needed. Above all, Mrs. Shaffer loved the Lord with all of her heart and is now rejoicing in the presence of Jesus Christ for eternity.
