Mrs. Alice Ruth Lumpkin, age 97, of Rome, Georgia, sadly passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at a local nursing facility.
Alice was born in Rome, Georgia on May 19, 1927, to the late Luther Burton Payton and Addie Frances Payton (formerly Pierce). She is also preceded in death by her husband, John Lee Lumpkin, as well as numerous brothers and sisters.
Survivors include her daughters, Hazel Ann Chittom (David), and Joanne Borders; her son, Jeffrey Lumpkin; her brother, Clarence McCoy Payton; her sister, Bertha Lumpkin; as well several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Alice was always a hard-working woman who enjoyed putting all her effort into what she was doing and took a lot of pride in any job she took on. She enjoyed making beautiful quilts and embroidery and in her younger years loved canning, planting and tending the most beautiful flower gardens. She had lots of fun going on picnics, going on vacation, and traveling with her church group. She also loved documenting these trips with numerous photos.
Alice will be cremated according to her wishes. Her family will be hosting a private graveside service at a later date.
