Our wonderful and funny husband and father, James Milton ‘Mickey’ Hunt, passed away peacefully in his home April 15, 2025, at the age of 92. He was surrounded by his family and is now rejoicing in Heaven with our Lord and Savior.
Mickey was born in Rome, GA on May 7, 1932, to the late Willette Lambert and the late William Lawrence Hunt. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Nancy McSwain and a brother-in-law, Mike Bowen.
He is survived by his wife, Myra B. Hunt, who would have celebrated their 50th Anniversary in September. He is survived by 3 children: Greg Dobbins (Debbie), Susan Payne (Scott), and Shannon Boatner (Robert). He also leaves behind 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Myra Calvert and Judy Anderson (Jimmy) and his brother, Tony Hunt (Sylvia) and several nieces and nephews.
After graduating from McHenry High School, Mickey served in the United States Navy on the USS St. Paul during the Korean War from 1951-1953. He was employed by General Electric and was the Assistant Chief of Berry College Security. He retired in 1997 as the Chief of the Cave Spring Police Department. He was also a mason of the Oostanaula Masonic Lodge #113 F & AM. Mickey was a handyman and carpenter and was called on by many to fix things and has built many different types of furniture including bunk beds, tables, bookshelves, and even bird houses. His legacy of woodworking will be left in many homes. Mickey was always known for his sense of humor and his greatest joy was being a PawPaw to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was an active member of Community Chapel Baptist Church where he held many positions including Sunday School Superintendent and Men’s Sunday School teacher.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, April 21, 2025, at 1:00pm, at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, and interment will follow at Floyd Memory Gardens with military honors presented by the Rome American Legion Honor Guard and Masonic rights conferred by Oostanaula Masonic Lodge #113 F & AM. The service will be led by Rev. Clinton Green and Rev. Robert Boatner.
The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel on Monday from 11:00am until 12:45pm.
Pallbearers are asked to assemble at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel by 12:30pm on Monday and will be Stephen Dobbins, Aaron Dobbins, Caleb Payne, Noah Payne, Tony McBurnett, Baker Harbin, Steve Acker and Jeramy Penny.
