Reverend William Martin Brooks, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather went to be with his Lord and Savior, Saturday, March 22, 2025.
Martin was born January 9, 1940, in Bartow County, Georgia, son of the late William Joseph Brooks and Emergene Howell Brooks. Martin, a dedicated veteran of the United States Army, served as a tank commander at Fort Benning in Georgia and Fort Wainwright in Alaska. He was a member of Stoner Chapel Baptist Church and served as a former pastor at Crowe Springs Baptist Church and Five Forks Baptist Church. He loved to preach the gospel and worship to the traditional hymns.
Martin retired as the maintenance supervisor from Spring City Knitting and was a certified electrician and HVAC specialist throughout his life. He loved spending time with his family, the outdoors, as well as hunting and fishing. He had a passion and gift for breathing new life into old homes skillfully building and remodeling with love. His green thumb was unmatched, allowing him to cultivate a bountiful array of vegetables, fruits, and flowers that he shared with others. His hands were always creating something beautiful and lasting.
Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Hazel Simpson Brooks; beloved daughters, Terri Brooks Mansfield and husband Marc and Mandy Brooks Levi and husband Steven; grandchildren, William Robert Mansfield and wife Krysta; Aaron Patrick Mansfield and wife Megan; great-grandchildren, Aidan Lucas Mansfield, Evelyn Dawn Marie Mansfield, Irene Brooks Mansfield, Cooper Martin Mansfield, and Olivia Jean Mansfield. His sisters; Doris Thacker and Marion Tidwell, brother-in-law Jack Dempsey, nieces and nephews and
great nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his siblings Billie Smith and husband L.C., Shirley Worley and husband Claude, Evelyn Dempsy, half-brother J.P. Brooks, and brothers-in-law, Lamar Thacker and Lewis Tidwell.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at 2:00 PM, from the chapel of Barton Funeral Home, Adairsville, with Reverends Sammy Adams and Jimmy Temples officiating. Interment will follow at Old Macedonia Cemetery (Lake Allatoona) with military honors. Pallbearers will include William Mansfield, Aaron Mansfield, Harry Knight, Ricky Bryant, and Michael Rose.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Barton Funeral Home.
