The family of Thomas “Tommy” F. Townsell, Jr. of Cave Spring, GA, is profoundly saddened to announce his unexpected death on 12/15/2024 at the age of 68 years, after an exceedingly short, unfair battle with cancer.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 32 years, Barbie Schwegman Townsell, their daughter and son-in-law, Tiffani and Jake Colston, their grandson, Jackson Colston, his sister, Vonnie (John) Tant, his nieces, Amber McArthur and Elizabeth Watford, his mother-in-law, Betsy Schwegman, and his sister-in-law, Donna Wells. And of course, his precious 5 lb. partner-in-crime, Atticus (chihuahua).

Tommy was preceded in death by his father, his mother, Glenda Fuqua Bass, and his father-in-law, Don “Pop” Schwegman.

Tommy was born in Rome, GA in 1956. After attending Model High School, he worked various jobs until landing at the Rome Fire Department. During his tenure, he was fondly referred to as Double T. He retired, after 35 years of service, as a Captain. Throughout much of his time at the RFD, he also worked as a paramedic with Floyd Medical Center.

Tommy was an avid hunter, fisherman, chef, and fixer of anything. He was also a part-time cheerleader and support person for Jackson’s award-winning clay target team.

Visitation will be held at Henderson and Son’s Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Maple Road, Thursday, 12/19/24 from 5pm until 8 pm. At Tommy’s request, no service will be held.

In lieu of flowers, living plants are appreciated. Tommy loved to grow things. However, donations to any local animal shelter are also appreciated.

Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, is honored to serve the family of Mr. Thomas “Tommy” F. Townsell, Jr.
