Ms. Mary Ellen Strickland Evans, age 87, of Lindale, passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at her daughter’s residence.
Ms. Evans was born in Floyd County, Georgia on October 23, 1937, daughter of the late Oscar A. Strickland and the late Lena Easterwood Strickland. She was also preceded in death by a son, Bradley Evans, and by seven siblings, J.D. Strickland, Ruby Kiser, Edna Weaver, Margie Haygood, Eva Strickland, Alvin Strickland, and Frances Strickland. Ms. Evans was a member of Cedar Creek Baptist Church. She went back to school in her 60’s and received her associate’s degree from Coosa Valley Tech. She worked in customer service for Universal Tax Systems and was the former owner of Liberty News Stand on Broad Street. Ms. Evans enjoyed flower arranging and puzzles, and growing tomatoes, peaches, and blueberries.
Survivors include a daughter, Penny Evans-Plants and her husband, Eric Plants; two grandchildren, Zach Plants and Abby Plants; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at 11am in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, with Dr. Earl Kellett officiating. Private interment will follow in East View Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Saturday from 10am until the service time.
