Mrs. Betty ‘Jelene’ Berry King, age 76, of Rome, GA, passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2024, at a local hospital.

       Jelene was born in Lindale, GA, on April 29, 1948, daughter of the late Robert Berry and the late Margaret E. Berry Henson. She worked as a hairdresser with her mother while she earned her high school degree in February of 1969. Jelene attended Floyd Junior College, West Georgia College/Georgia State University from 1972-1972, where she earned a Regents Scholarship, Academic Scholarship, a history award, she was on the dean’s list, and she was an honor graduate obtaining her master’s degree.

       Mrs. King taught at Jacksonville State University for 20 years, where she was a Professor of English Literature, she also worked at Chattahoochee Technical College as an Administrator. She enjoyed traveling, she visited Alaska, Hawaii, the Great Southwest, the Las Vagas area, and taking Caribbean Cruises. Her hobbies included landscaping, cooking, studying her family history, reading and genealogy.

       Survivors include her husband of 20 years, to whom she married on June 27, 2004, Mr. Martin ‘Marty’ King, a retired polymer chemist; and her adopted daughter, Bayley King.

       Funeral services will be held at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, Oaknoll Chapel, on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 2:00pm, with Rev. Robert Vines officiating. Interment will follow in East View Cemetery.

       The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, Oaknoll Chapel, from 1:00pm until the hour of service.
