Mr. James Lamar Rush, Jr., age 78, of Rome, passed away on Friday, December 13, 2024, at his residence.
Mr. Rush was born in Rome, Georgia on February 27, 1946, son of the late James Lamar Rush, Sr. and the late Fern Loree Wigington Rush. He was a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church in Jasper. He along with his family owned a skating rink in Jasper for several years. He also owned a restaurant in Jasper and J & D Rebuilders where he rebuilt and sold cars. Mr. Rush worked at Lindale Manufacturing/Greenwood Mills until it closed. Classic cars were his passion, and he was a founding member of Coosa Valley Street Rod. He was an avid car racing fan.
Survivors include his wife, Grace Sassone Rush, to whom he was married on June 7, 1979; a daughter, Cassie Hellriegel (Drew); a grandson, Bennett James Hellriegel; a sister, Ann Turner; two brothers, Don Rush, Jr. and Gary Rush; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at 2pm in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, with the Rev. Grant Wade officiating. Interment will follow in Floyd Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Tuesday from 12pm until 1:45pm.
Pallbearers are asked to assemble at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Tuesday at 1:30pm and include Active: Jackie Payne, Chris Bohannon, Lee Pryor, Keith Godfrey, Scott Hall, and Mitch King. Honorary: Don Rush, Jr., William Bohannon, Joe Fowler, and Jeff Rosson.
