A single-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 8:15 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, has claimed the lives of two people.

The driver, Brandi D. Odell, 46, and a 1-year-old passenger, both of Gadsden, were fatally injured when the 2012 Nissan Murano they were in left the roadway and struck a tree. Both were pronounced deceased at the scene by the Cherokee County Coroner’s Office.

An additional passenger,  a 3-year-old of Gadsden, was also injured and transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The crash occurred on U.S. 411 near Pine Cone Road, approximately one mile south of Leesburg in Cherokee County.

According to reports, the weather conditions at the time may have contributed to the accident. The accident remains under investigation by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Highway Patrol Division.

The coroner’s office appreciates the tremendous assistance provided by the Cherokee County Rescue Squad, Leesburg Fire and Police, Floyd EMS and the Alabama State Trooper that responded.
