Jefferson’s of Rome is pleased to announce that John Davis has been named Jefferson’s Rome Coach of the Year. Davis has coached football and baseball for the Pepperell Middle School Dragons for six years, and has been coaching in the Rome community for nearly 40 years.
Coach Davis was chosen from a highly competitive pool of nominations submitted by athletes and community members. The contest, launched in honor of National Coach’s Day on Oct. 6, aims to recognize one of Rome’s many deserving coaches. Jefferson’s selected Davis as the Rome Coach of the Year for his impressive lifetime of service.
“Coach Davis’s nominators spoke of all that he’s given to his players over the last several decades,” said Wayne Mullinax, franchisee. “If a player’s family needed financial support, Davis would help. If an athlete needed a ride, Davis would pick them up. He doesn’t coach for recognition or money, but because he loves the sport, the kids, and the community. We’re pleased to honor his career of selflessness as a coach.”
Davis will receive a $500 gift card to Jefferson’s. His achievement will also be commemorated with a “Jefferson’s Coach of the Year” plaque for all restaurant patrons to see.
“I’ve loved watching my players move on to high school and find success on Friday nights,” Davis said. “One of my favorite memories from coaching has been just having players show their gratitude or love.”
The Jefferson’s Rome Coach of the Year award was open to coaches of any sport working with athletes of any age. Coaches could be nominated by athletes, parents and guardians of athletes, school officials, or other community members
