Nathaniel Porter Kozelle,17 of Rome, was arrested after he allegedly threatened to bring an assault rifle to Rome High and shoot up to school.

Kozelle is charged with terroristic threats and acts, (16-11-37) and disrupting the operation of a public school, school bus, or school bus stop (20-2-1181).

Schools within the Rome City School System were placed on lockdown around lunchtime Friday as information regarding threats was discovered and shared with school system administrators. Rome Police Department Investigators worked with School Resource Officers and determined that the individual who allegedly made the threats was not on campus at the time of the lockdown. He was later located at his residence, detained, and subsequently charged. Schools within Rome City remained on lockdown through the end of the school day.

CVN has since learned that the lockdown went into effect at 11:18 and school officials did not notify E911 until 12:07 pm, nearly an hour after the school learned of the threat. Rome City Schools did not have comment on the matter.
