Mr. Brandon Allen Ekey, age 49, of Rome, passed away on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at a local hospital while surrounded by his family.
Brandon was born in Birmingham, Alabama on January 8, 1975, son of William Allen “Bill” Ekey and Pamela Butler Ekey. He received a Bachelor of Criminal Science degree from the University of West Georgia. Prior to retirement, he worked for the Rome Police Department, retiring with the rank of Sargent. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Rome. Brandon loved the outdoors, especially fishing, but his greatest love was his two girls.
Survivors include two daughters, Samantha Ekey and Sarah Ekey; his parents, Bill & Pam Ekey; the mother of his girls, Kristen Free Ekey; a sister, Laurel Gambill (Squire); three nieces, Maggie, Ashleigh and Amelia Gambill; as well as his law enforcement brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 26, 2024, at 11am EST in the Historic Sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church of Rome with the Rev. Ken Chivers and Chaplain David Thornton officiating and Mr. Ghee Wilson and Mrs. Kimberly Gherdes delivering eulogies. Graveside service will be on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, at 12pm CST at Jefferson Memorial Gardens South in Hoover, Alabama with Chaplain David Thornton and Mr. Gene Free officiating.
The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Sunday from 3 until 6pm EST.
Pallbearers are asked to assemble at the church on Monday at 10:30am EST and include Active: Cody Hensley, Kevin Brown, Jason Lemming, Chris Lacey, Adam Motes, and Squire Gambill. Honorary: Gene Free, Taylor Maddox, Charles Gherdes, and his law enforcement family.
