Mr. Barry Glenn Boatner, Sr., age 87, of Cedartown, GA, passed away on Monday, August 5, 2024, at his residence surrounded by his family.

       Mr. Boatner was born in Floyd County, GA, on July 9, 1937, son of the late L.T. Boatner and the late Emma Minter Boatner. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Doris Jane Tortoso. Mr. Boatner was a millright at Inland (now International Paper) for over 32 years before his retirement. He was an avid golfer and loved everything about the sport. Whether it was watching or playing, golf was constantly on his mind. Mr. Boatner also enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles and was the mill champion, having recruited many of his coworkers to take part in the puzzles. He loved traveling and enjoyed maps and mapping out his journeys. Mr. Boatner was a member of New Bethel Congregational Methodist and, when his health allowed it, was very active in the church having served as a deacon, trustee and Sunday School teacher.

       Survivors include the love of his life, Evelyn Newberry Boatner, to whom he was married for over 66 years; 2 children, Regina Mathews (Michael), and Barry Boatner (Stephanie), both of Cedartown; a sister, Dorothy Tanner, Cedartown; 6 grandchildren, Sarah Garmon (Tony), Stephen Mathews, Hannah Sanford (Casey), Tyler Boatner, Chloe Boatner (Jordan Mayo), and Claire Boatner (Cayden Lawson); 7 great-grandchildren, Hudson Garmon, Brody Mathews, Chase Mathews, Harper Sanford, Gracelyn Garmon, Carter Sanford, and Olivia Lawson; numerous nieces and nephews.

       Funeral services will be held at 6pm on Friday, August 9, 2024, in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel. The Rev. Bobby Roberson will officiate, and eulogies will be delivered by Barry Henderson, Tom Bowen, and Mr. Boatner’s son, Barry Boatner, Jr.

       The family will receive friends from 4pm until service time on Friday at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel. At other hours, the family will be available at his daughter Regina’s residence.

       In accordance with his wishes, following the services Mr. Boatner will be cremated. A graveside inurnment will be held at 10am on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at Rome Memorial Park.

       The family would also like to extend a special thank you to Heyman Hospice, Dr. Dilawar Khan, Harbin Oncology, Dr. Matt Mumbar, and Harbin Clinic Radiation for all of the love, care, and support that they provided Mr. Boatner.
