SSgt. (ret) Herbert Leon Lipham, age 95, of Rome, GA, passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2024, peacefully at his home.

                Mr. Lipham was born in Lineville, AL, on November 9, 1928, son of the late Albert D. Lipham and the late Slonia Carter Lipham.  He was also preceded in death by a son, Leonard Lipham, a daughter-in-law, Clarice Lipham, one grandson, Corey Lipham, and by 9 siblings. Mr. Lipham retired from the United States Army after 24 years of faithful service, earning the rank of Staff Sergeant. He served from August of 1948 until October of 1972, and was combat veteran of both the Korean War and the Vietnam War.  Mr. Lipham loved traveling and spending whatever time he could at Lake Weiss. He loved eating and never passed up an opportunity for a good meal.

                Survivors include his wife, Helga Sorn Lipham, to whom he was married in 1956 in Mannheim, Germany, Rome; 2 children, Steve Lipham, Rome, and Debbie Loyd (Bobby), Silver Creek; 3 grandchildren, Leila Shindler (Ken), Bobbie Jean Reaves (Andy), and Tina Abrams (Steven); 5 great-grandchildren, Trey McCullers, Madison Reaves, Kaitlyn Lipham, Kaleb Lipham, and Kailey Lipham; numerous nieces and nephews.

                Funeral services will be held at 11am on Friday, July 12, 2024, in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, with Chaplain David Thornton officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with the Rome American Legion Honor Guard delivering military honors.           

                The family will receive friends on Friday from 10am until service time at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel.
