Mr. CHARLES WALTER BROWDER, SR, age. 89 of 156 Davis Loop Rd, NE, Rome, went to be with his Lord on Monday, July 22, 2024, at a healthcare facility.
Mr. Browder was born in Obion County, TN on June 2, 1935.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Beatrice Mann Browder, brother, James Robert Browder, sister-in-law, Elwanda Buck Browder, sister-in-law, Mildred Hunter Skinner, brother-in-law, Thomas G. Hunter, and granddaughter, Amanda Hale Simmons.
Mr. Browder graduated from South Fulton High School in 1953. After graduation he moved to Jackson, TN to work; later moving to Rome to work as a portrait photographer with George Day Studio. He served in the Army for two years and in reserve for four years. He retired from Liggett Myers Tobacco Co after 37 years and Switzer Cigar after seven years as Senior Sales Representative.
Mr. Browder was an avid flower gardener and had the famous “green thumb”. In the past he provided fresh floral arrangements for Enon Baptist Church where he was a member. He was past president of Model Band Boosters Club; charter member of Model Ruritan Club holding several offices, i.e. GA-AL Ruritan, District 24 Zone Governor and District Governor.
Mr. Browder is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sandra Hunter Browder, two sons, Charles W. Browder, Jr. (Carolyn), Elizabethtown, KY and Robert Hunter Browder (Brenda), LaFayette, GA; grandchildren, Kimberly Browder, Emily Lytner, Erika Browder, Brian Lytner (Kayla), Spencer Browder, Susan Hale (Darren), Amy Winkles (Daniel); great grandchildren, Senora Winkles (Devin), Ella Winkles, Ada and Emma Simmons, Haylee Barrett, Braylen Stoker, Emily Byers (Aaron), Seth and Madison Sheroan, Connor and Logan Cline, Lilly Anne, Liam and Luke Lytner, James Paul Browder; great-great grandchildren, Paisley Rose Clark, Scottie Drew Clark, Kinley Ann Brown, Landyn Sherone, Winry Byers; niece, Suzanne Browder Davis (Rick).
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at 2:00pm at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, Oaknoll Chapel, with Rev. Marshall Plants officiating. Interment will follow at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens, with the Rome American Legion Honor Guard presenting military honors.
The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home Oaknoll Chapel, on Saturday, from 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm.
Pallbearers are asked to assemble at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, Oaknoll Chapel, on Saturday at 1:30pm and include Active: Joey Baker, Aric Bunch, Carman Caldwell, Chad Carney, Charles Mull, Steve Sluder and Jerry Wiley. Honorary pallbearers are Model Ruritan Club members.
