Mrs. Patricia Warner “Pattie” Mauer Friis, age 82, of Rome, GA, passed away on Monday, June 17, 2024, at a local hospital.
Mrs. Friis was born in Oakland, CA, on December 29, 1941, daughter of the late Lyle Warner and the late Loretta Knight Warner. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ib Niels Friis, and by a stepson, Clark Friis. Mrs. Friis was a graduate of Plainfield High School in Plainfield, IL. She worked for many years as an accountant at Zartic, Inc. but her favorite job was as a loving housewife and homemaker. Mrs. Friis was a member of Rome First United Methodist Church.
Family was everything to Mrs. Friis and always went above and beyond for them. She made the best homemade pies and gifted her family with her homemade cinnamon rolls around Christmas time. Mrs. Friis adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved playing bridge and was a member of 2 different bridge clubs. Mrs. Friis also loved traveling, having traveled as far as India, Australia and New Zealand. She and Niels enjoyed camping, camping all along the east coast and making the trek to Alaska with their 5th wheel on 4 different occasions. Mrs. Friis had a heart to serve and volunteered at Floyd Medical Center in the NICU as a baby rocker. She devoted much of her time to helping in whatever way she could at the Murphy-Harpst Children’s Center.
Survivors include her 3 children, Tami Mauer Modlin (Darrell), Chris Mauer (Kim), and Jeff Mauer (Mary Margaret), all of Rome; her brother, Neil Warner (Debbie); 9 grandchildren, Lauren Mauer Ward (Corey), Taylor Mauer Mclellan (Ivy), Christopher Mauer, Gill Mauer, Jason Mauer (Yasmin), Maggie Mauer, Jessica Mauer, Nick Mauer (Brie), and Taylor Modlin; 4 great grandchildren, Niels Ward, Mauer Ward, Hallette Louise “Lettie” Ward, and Eli Ward; 3 stepchildren, Eric Friis (Yvonne), Jane Anderson (Blake), and Kim Friis; daughter-in-law, Jo Friis; 5 step grandchildren, Angela, Ashley, Nichole, Terrilynn, and Dylan; and 4 step great grandchildren, Jordan, Keanon, Arlow and Elena.
In accordance with her wishes, Mrs. Friis will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, June 29, 2024, in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, with the Rev. Dr. Valerie Loner officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 12pm until service time on Saturday at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel.
The family asks that Nell Bollen and members of Mrs. Friis’ Bible Study Group and Bridge Clubs serve as honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to either: Murphy Harpst Children’s Center in Cedartown, the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the Shriner’s Hospitals for Children, or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
