Mr. Robert Henry “Bob” Williams, Sr., age 80, of Rome, passed away on Monday, June 24, 2024, at his residence.
Bob was born on the banks of Dykes Creek in Floyd County, Georgia on November 15, 1943, son of the late Henry Williams and the late Dorothy Carver Williams Holmes. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Campbell Williams, by a daughter, Ann Williams, by two brothers, Leroy Williams and Michael Joe Williams, and by two sisters, Juanita Gentry and Patricia Smith.
Bob graduated from Mt. Berry School for Boys and attended Berry College. He was an ASE Certified Mechanic, received Master Sales Training at Chrysler and Auto Training at both Ford Motors and Chrysler. He received Chevron Service Station Business Management training as well as Chrysler Dealer Management training. He received his Doctorate from the School of Hard Knocks.
Bob worked as an auto mechanic at Rome Auto Clinic then worked for Georgia Kraft and Alabama Kraft. He then worked for Standard Service Station, Lindsey L&M, Julian Harrison Ford as well as Bob Williams Auto Service. He then owned and operated Bob Williams Dodge for 38 years until his retirement. Bob volunteered at Berry College basketball games from 1978 until 2012 working on the radio with Randy Davis.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Williams, Jr. (Karen) and Tim B. Williams (Tiffany); a daughter, Lynn Alford (Gary); stepdaughter, Sandy Smith (David); two brothers, Ricky Williams and Billy Williams; a special friend, Linda Petty; 11 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 28, 2024, at 11am at Frost Chapel on the campus of Berry College with the Rev. Jeff Dabbs and Chaplain David Thornton officiating. Interment will follow in Rome Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Thursday from 4 until 8pm.
Pallbearers are asked to assemble at Frost Chapel on Friday at 10:30am and include Active: Evan Williams, Mason Alford, Conner Alford, Jeffrey Harrelson, Tyson Purdie, Jimmy Stanfield, Chuck Gavette, and James Vinson. Honorary: Berry College Coaches.
