Mrs. Margarita Diaz Gutierrez, age 85, of Rome, GA, passed away on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at a local hospital.

                Mrs. Gutierrez was born in Zacatecas, Mexico, on June 13, 1938, daughter of the late Atanasio Diaz and the late Beatriz Escobedo Diaz.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, Francisco Gutierrez, and by 2 siblings, Anselmo Diaz and Enriqueta Trujillo.  Mrs. Gutierrez spent the majority of her working career in the dry-cleaning industry where she specialized in the ironing department of various dry cleaners in California. Her family meant everything to her, and she loved cooking for them whenever she could. Mrs. Gutierrez was an excellent cook, and her tamales were second to none.  She was also a great seamstress and enjoyed knitting.  Mrs. Guitierrez also enjoyed watching her 2 birds during her free time.  She was of the Catholic faith and attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Rome.

                Survivors include her 4 daughters, Veronica Gomez (Jose), Irving, TX, Martha Del Real (Jose), Rome, Maria Aragon, Rome, and Maria De Lourdes (Jose Gutierrez), Los Angelas, CA; 2 sons, Rafael Gutierrez and Joaquin Gutierrez, both of Rome; 2 siblings, Geronimo Diaz and Pasqualita Gutierrez; 19 grandchildren, Jennifer Gomez, Ashley Smith (Brian), Diana Gomez, Kimberly Hill (Westley), Samantha Gomez, Nancy Mojica (Omar), Jose Del Real (Daniela), Carmen Del Real, Wendy Del Real (Timothy Johnson), Martha Del Real, Melissa Del Real, Stacy Aragon, Yulissa Gutierrez, Samuel Gutierrez, Jacqueline Delgado (Uriel), Rafael Gutierrez, Miguel Bogarin, Maritza Gutierrez and Vanessa Gutierrez; 12 great-grandchildren, Aubrey June Hill, Izabella Mojica, Emanuel Mojica, Mariana Johnson, Gabriella Johnson, Sofia Delgado, Liam Delgado, Abigail Bogarin, Anthony Bogarin, Leo Gutierrez, Gio Gutierrez and Luna Nova Del Real.

                A funeral mass will be held at 10:30am on Monday, May 13, 2024, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 911 N. Broad St., Rome, GA, 30161, with the Fr. Paul Porter presiding.  Interment will follow in Rome Memorial Park.

                The family will receive friends from 4pm until 6pm on Sunday, May 12, 2024, at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel.

                Members of Mrs. Gutierrez’s family will serve as pallbearers.
