Alfred Dewitt Buffington, age 83, of Rome, passed away April 15, 2024, at a local healthcare facility.

A native of Floyd County, Mr. Buffington was born on May 9, 1940, the son of the late Samuel Dewitt and Mary Gladys Manning Buffington. He had spent his entire life in Floyd County and was of the Baptist faith. He was a graduate of Coosa High School and served in the U.S. Army. In 1962 he married the love of his life, Jeanie. Mr. Buffington was employed by United Parcel Service for many years before his retirement. He enjoyed gardening, watching television documentaries, and traveling the world with Jeanie.

Besides his parents, Mr. Buffington was preceded in death by brothers, Samuel Dewitt Buffington, Marvin Buffington, and Arnold Buffington, as well as a sister, Lucille Buffington Childers.

He is survived by his wife of over 61 years, the former Martha Jean “Jeanie” Clemones, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and laughter. Also surviving are a daughter, Kristi Robinson, one granddaughter, his “Baby Sister” Clara Buffington Ayer, sister-in-law, Martha Buffington, sister-in-law, Bobbie Buffington, sister-in-law, Linda Blankinship (Guy), and close friend and sister-in-law, Carolyn Clark. A host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews also survive.

 In accordance with his wishes, Mr. Buffington will be cremated, with a private memorial service to be held at a later date.

The family would like to thank his caregivers at Amedisys Home Health, Amedisys Hospice, Tapestry Hospice, and the staff at Chulio Hills Health and Rehab for the excellent care Mr. Buffington received. In addition, special thanks to Tina Weeks Lindsey and Micky Weeks for their dedicated love and care for Mr. Buffington and our family.
