Dena Rochelle Conaway, 54 of Rome, was arrested this week after reports said she filed numerous false medical claims to her insurance company over a span of nearly three years.
On March 3, 2021, Conway was accused of filing two fraudulent documents with Unum Insurance for $87,349 and was paid $2,300 for a hospital stay that never occurred. She reported that she was involved in a car accident in Miami, Florida. As a result of the accident, Conway claimed that she required surgery and underwent a hospital stay at Baptist Hospital that did not occur. She was able to procure $6,915 from her insurance company from the lie.
Police said that on October 27, 2021, Conaway filed an accident claim to Unum Insurance and procured $7,415. She then submitted a medical invoice for $1,440,167 from Dignity Health Hospital and a surgery report that both were discovered to be fraudulent.
Then on October 28, 2021, she filed two fraudulent medical documents to Unum Insurance and procured $1,900. She them filed fraudulent invoices and a surgery report of a hospital bill for $1,440,164 that did not occur.
On June 22, 2023, Conway is accused of filing a fraudulent insurance application, medical invoice and surgery report with picture images in an effort to procure $138,800 from Blue Cross/ Blue Shield. Conway reported that she fell in the shower and suffered head and facial injuries. She added that the incident occurred in Las Angles and that she was transported to a hospital for surgery. Both the claim and the incident was found to have been false.
Conaway is charged with five counts first degree forgery and five counts insurance fraud.
