Michael Robert Bennett, 44 of Rome, was arrested this week after reports said he used a Floyd County purchasing card to initiate 25 transactions, amounting to $1,142.96 worth of fraudulent purchases.

Reports said that Bennett made the purchases on his personal Amazon account and did so to evaded paying taxes by using the government tax ID.

He is also accused of falsifying a county allocation document with the intent to cover up the transactions.

The thefts occurred between September 8, 2022 and March 18, 2024.

Bennett is charged with felony theft by taking government property, fraudulent use of exemption certificate to evade taxes, 14 counts of false statements and writings and 25 counts unauthorized use of financial transaction card fraud.
