Pepperell High School students Ava Burkhalter, Olivia Edwards, and Ruby Spain participated in the GaDOE Student State Chef Competition where they placed second overall. The trio was coached by Mrs. Laura Byrd.
The dish that earned a second-place finish for the chefs of PHS was a sweet and spicy chicken and sweet potato enchilada specialty.
The competition consisted of teams from across the state submitting student-developed and approved recipes featuring Georgia grown ingredients.
This competition not only meets Georgia education standards, but also provides students with hands-on learning opportunities. The winning recipes will be standardized and served as part of school meals across Georgia.
“I am so proud of Ava, Olivia, Ruby, and Mrs. Byrd,” said FCS Child Nutrition Director, Ms. Debra Williams. They did a wonderful job and the food was delicious.”
