Mr. Willie Joe Amerson, age 79, of Rome

Mr. Willie Joe Amerson, age 79, of Rome, GA, passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at a hospital in Birmingham, AL.

                Mr. Amerson was born in Eufaula, AL, on October 24, 1944, son of the late Fred Amerson and the late Mary Pearl Conner Amerson.  He was also preceded in death by 2 siblings, Wretha Brown and Mack Amerson.  Mr. Amerson was the fleet manager for Woodward Academy for 28 years before his retirement.  He enjoyed fishing but most of all, loved spending whatever time he could with his grandchildren.  Mr. Amerson was a member of New Canaan Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.

                Survivors include is wife, Patsy Smith Amerson, Rome, to whom he was married on July 17, 1965; 3 children, Freddy Amerson (Nikia), Rome, Stacey Bowman (Tim), Cartersville, and Jason Amerson (Angela), Rome; 5 grandchildren, Joseph Bowman (Katie), Katlyn Bowman, Selena Amerson, Garrett Amerson, and Madelyn Amerson; 2 great grandchildren, Alyssa Bowman and Melody Bowman; nieces and nephews.

                Funeral services will be held at 1pm on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, Oaknoll Chapel, with the Rev. Corey Wright and the Rev. Sammy Burgess officiating.  Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.

                The family will receive friends from 5pm until 7pm on Monday, March 18, 2024, at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, Oaknoll Chapel.

                Pallbearers are to assemble by 12:30pm on Tuesday at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, Oaknoll Chapel, and include: Joe Wright, Carey Wright, Jimmy Arrington, Ray Arrington, Todd Hughes and Scott Alverson
