Rodreaus Jhiheame Shaymar Roberts, 22 of Rome, was jailed this week after reports said he attacked police officers while he was being taken into custody for prowling around a closed church on East 14th Street.

Officers stated that when they approached Roberts he attempted to flee on foot while failing to identify himself.  After being captured, Roberts proceeded to give police a fake name and date of birth.

He then again attempted to flee from officers and another chase was ensured.

This time after being captured, Roberts allegedly threatened to do harm to them while repeatedly striking them in the chest with his knees.

One of the officers reportedly suffered a torn ligament to his finger.

Roberts is charged with felony obstruction, loitering, giving false information to police, simple battery against a police officer, aggravated battery against law enforcement, possession of marijuana and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
