Paul Wayne Richey, age 83, of Armuchee, GA, met his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ face to face on November 21, 2023. Born May 8, 1940, in Muncie, Indiana, son of the late Ralph L. Richey and Marie L. Cross. He attended seminary at Ashland Theological Seminary in Ashland, Ohio, and followed God’s call to ministry, pastoring several churches in Indiana and West Virginia. Self-employed as a carpenter and electrician, he built homes and raised his family tending a small dairy goat farm in Kentucky. Following his late wife Patricia’s employment as a nurse midwife, he lived in Florida for a time assisting in the care of family members, and upon her retirement, moved with her to Armuchee to join their beloved church family at Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church.
Always self-reliant, he worked with his hands his entire life, accomplished in carpentry, electrical and mechanics, and capable in plumbing, his least favorite skill. However, his true focus was always on people, shepherding and teaching them, and leading them to active faith in Christ. A passionate supporter of missions and missionary endeavors, he practiced a life-long commitment to physical labor in service of others and participating in the Lord’s work. He and wife Patricia prayerfully and freely opened their home to adoption of two children, to international students, to Bible study and mentoring relationships, and earnestly sought to dedicate ever-greater efforts to service of their Lord.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Patricia Kay Signs Richey, his parents, a brother and sister, and three children, Karen Sue, David Allen, and Sue Ellen, infants. He is survived by four children including Wayne Richey (Jamie) of Rome, GA, Paula Zamudio (Vinny) of Lakeland, FL, Steve Richey (Mana) of Honolulu, HI, and Michelle Thomas of KY. Grandchildren are Charis Forman (Josh) of Alpharetta, GA, Brian Richey of Birmingham, AL, Brindley Richey of Rome, GA, Nathan Thomas of Lakeland, FL, Esteban Richey of Indianapolis, IN, Mynah Richey of Honolulu, HI, Cardinal Richey of Honolulu, HI, Michael Snell of Frankfort, KY, Kelly Thomas Stephenson of Rineyville, KY, and Zachary Thomas of Rineyville, KY. Extended family accounts for numerous great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces.
In accordance with his wishes, Paul will be cremated, with private burial of his remains near family in Indiana at a future date. A brief memorial service of celebration and worship, followed by a time of fellowship with family and friends, will be held at Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church at 1:00PM on Saturday, November 25, 2023, with pastors Mac McCurry and Clyde Hampton officiating.
In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to direct contributions via check (or online giving form) to the WinShape Camps Scholarship Fund through Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church. The family wishes to acknowledge with deep gratitude the unsurpassed love and attentive care of both parents by Hearth Hospice of Ringgold.
