Ms. Shirley Elaine Reece, age 83, of Rome, GA, passed away on Friday, November 10, 2023, in a local hospital.
Ms. Reece was born in Floyd County, GA, on February 13, 1940, daughter of the late J.C. Martin and the late Gladys Mae Hart Martin. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Wilburn Reece, and by 2 siblings, Edna Atkins and Charles Martin. Ms. Reece is well known for working at the Desoto Theatre where she working in the concession stand for many years. She also worked at the “Super D” and most recently at Morrison’s Cafeteria when it was in Riverbend Mall. Ms. Reece was one of a kind and kept the staff and residents of Fifth Avenue Health Care straight. While she never had children, she was a loving aunt who took care of her nieces and nephews as her own. Ms. Reece was a constant well of advice for her family and would listen to anyone who needed to talk. She was of the Baptist faith and is now rejoicing in the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Survivors include her 2 siblings, Sue Brumbelow and Arthur “Bunk” Martin; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, Oaknoll Chapel, with the Rev. Steve Martin officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 1pm until service time on Wednesday at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, Oaknoll Chapel.
