Ms. Helen Faye Broom, age 85, of Rome, GA, passed away Saturday, November 11, 2023, in a local health care facility.
Ms. Broom was born in Floyd County, GA on November 3, 1938, daughter of the late Fahy Miller “Joe” Broom and the late Ruby Jewel Hutchins Broom. She was also preceded in death by her special mother and dad, Mr. and Mrs. Homer Kilgo, by a special brother, Winston Kilgo, and by a special sister, Jean Kilgo Crump. Her brothers, Howell, Walter, Grady, and Victor Broom, and well as her sisters, Margret Wallace, Ruth Daughdrill, and Betty Green, preceded her in death.
She was a graduate of East Rome High School and attended Young Harris College before graduating from Coosa Vally Tech, with a degree in accounting. Prior to her retirement, she was employed with the Northwest Georgia Housing Authority for over 33 years. She was a long-time member of Second Avenue United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Church Choir, the Martha Kennedy Sunday School Class, and was active in other ministries at the church.
Ms. Broom was a member of Etowah Chapter #30, Order of the Eastern Star, having been a Past Matron, a Past Grand Adah, and a Past Representative of the Grand Chapter of Georgia. She held many positions in O. E. S. and was active in the Rainbow programs also.
She is survived by a special sister, Melba Kilgo Coffia, Rome; a special niece, LuAnn Coffia Pinkard (Lowell), Rome, and a special nephew, Ross Crump (Twila), Rome; 2 sisters, Monza Miller, Rainbow City, AL, and Brenda Robey, Birmingham, AL; other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at 2pm in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel. Her Pastor, the Rev. Rick Maeser, will officiate with the Etowah Chapter #30, O. E. S. providing last rites. Private interment will follow later in East View Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Wednesday from 12 noon until the service hour.
