Juanita Smith Henry passed away at the age of 91 on Sunday, November 5, 2023. What a wonderful life she led and what a legacy she has left behind. 33,452 days and boy did she squeeze a lot into those days.

Juanita Smith Henry was the 6th of 7 children of Elizabeth Cooper and Zollie Freeman Smith. Juanita married H. David Henry June 3rd, 1951, and they were married for 52 years until he passed away February 5th, 2004. They raised 4 children, Carol Vickery (Larry), Mark (Toni), Bruce (Deb) and Marcia Smith who passed away April 14, 2022.

She has 9 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. Juanita was an amazing seamstress who loved making clothes for herself and her children. She could make everything from boys shirts, girls blouses, dresses, skirts, prom dresses, even a wedding dress. In her later years, she refurbished 100’s of dolls for children at a mission in Kentucky. When all of her children were in school, she went to work at Scottsdale Mills as the payroll clerk, it was only fitting as her mother had worked there and her father retired from there. She had a wonderful sense of humor that she would use even when her mind was slipping. She loved to laugh and had the sweetest smile. She sang in the choir at Springwood Hills Baptist Church when they lived in Decatur.

She was a long-time member of Vann’s Valley United Methodist Church and is currently a member of Belmont Baptist Church in Calhoun. She is now reunited with her loved ones.

She and David traveled to all 50 states Mexico and Canada. Later she traveled to 5 European Countries. She loved canning vegetables from David’s garden. She was a wonderful cook and made the best coconut cake, which was always a Christmas breakfast for David and the family.
