As one of 29 construction contracts awarded by the Georgia Department of Transportation Floyd County will receive $8,537,311.95 to replace the bridge over Big Dry Creek on U.S. 27 in the Armuchee community.

The bridge, which is .417 mile long will be replaced with an expected completion date of March 31, 2026.

The new bridge will consist of four 12 foot travel lanes with a shoulder of 10 to 14 feet wide.

Construction is expected to allow for one lane of travel to be open for both directions.

The existing bridge was built in 1947 and widened in 1980.
