In continuous efforts of keeping the safety of the students and staff at the forefront of everything that is done around the system, Floyd County Schools is teaming up with local law enforcement and first responder agencies in Rome and Floyd County to participate in a disaster drill on Monday, October 16, 2023.
The drill will be taking place at Pepperell High School and the Coosa Valley Fairgrounds. It is a drill to simulate an active shooter or armed intruder events, and staff from all parties will be actively participating and receiving more training in all of their areas of expertise for this type of event.
The drill will last from 7:30 a.m. until approximately 3:30 p.m., as it will cover a disaster event from top to bottom, including the relocation process, which is where the fairgrounds come into play with this drill.
It is important to note that the area around Pepperell High School and the Coosa Valley Fairgrounds will be being used as part of the drill, so heavy emergency equipment and vehicles will be present during this time.
The overall safety of students and staff around Floyd County Schools is a top priority in the system and they are thankful for their partnerships with the local agencies and for their help in allowing such an important drill to take place.
