A former Cartersville High School teacher has pleaded guilty to multiple charges related to the sexual exploitation of a student, according to court records.
Fifty-four-year-old Mark Russell Mathison entered a non-negotiated plea in Bartow County Superior Court, where he admitted guilt to sexual exploitation of a child, sexual contact by a person in a position of trust in the first degree, and first-degree cruelty to children.
As part of his sentence, Mathison was ordered to serve 15 years, with five years to be spent in prison and the remaining time on probation.
Authorities say the charges stem from incidents that occurred between September 8 and October 20, 2023. According to the warrant, Mathison solicited and received nude images from a student and engaged in obscene telephone communication with the child during that time period.
