Two separate accidents at the same location at Armuchee High School on Monday morning resulted in the death of 34 year-old Kyle Edward Halladay of LaFayette.
The events began at 6:05 am when a southbound pickup truck left the roadway and struck a guideline for a power poll. The truck lost control and flipped numerous times before coming to rest near the red light at Armuchee High School on US 27.
Five minutes later a tractor-trailer, driven by Tony Orlando McFarland, 47 of Birmingham, struck a motorcycle that was driven by Halladay, of Walker County.
According to reports, McFarland left the scene and then later returned after delivering his route.
McFarland has been charged with homicide by vehicle in the first degree, hit and run, and following too closely.
The driver of the pickup truck was treated for minor injuries.
US 27 was closed for nearly four hours while police worked the scene.
