Antwon Lavince Edwards, 43 of Rome, was arrested this week after reports said he attempted to shoot a woman and a 6 year-old child at a home on Burnett Ferry Road.
Police said that the shooting occurred during a public dispute outside the home.
Officers added that while taking Edwards into custody they found him in possession of syringes containing a controlled substance inside.
Edwards is charged with two counts aggravated assault, 3rd degree cruelty to children, reckless conduct and possession of a schedule II controlled substance.
