Mr. Paul Wayne Abernathy, loving husband and father, went to his Heavenly home Thursday, August 10, 2023, surrounded by his family.
Wayne was born in Cherokee County, November 7, 1936, son of the late Alton Jesse Abernathy and Jewell Hardin Abernathy. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Mr. James H. Abernathy. Wayne was a member and past deacon of the Adairsville Christian Church and retired from Galey and Lord. He enjoyed fishing and taking trips to the mountains with his family.
Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Mary Pelfrey Abernathy; son and daughter-in-law, Patrick and Elizabeth Abernathy; niece, Teresa and Randy Robinson; several great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 13, 2023, at 3:00 PM from the Adairsville Christian Church with Ministers Ron Marks and Danny Pelfrey officiating. Interment will follow in the Eastview Cemetery, Adairsville. Pallbearers will be Marshall Moore, Harold Barrett, Paul Barrett, Ronnie Self, Austin Stephens, and Ronald Stephens. Honorary pallbearers will be John McPherson, Roger Bailey, Richard Cowart, and John D. Hooker.
The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Barton Funeral Home.
