Ernest “Cotton” Joe Gentry Sr., age 86 of Calhoun, Ga, passed away on Friday, August 4, 2023.
Ernest was born on November 5, 1936, in Gordon County, Georgia, by the late Charles McClellan Gentry and Nola Brown Gentry. He was an avid cattle farmer, hunter, fisherman and golfer. He was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of Pine Chapel Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was also proceeded in death by two brothers, Charles Gentry, and Kent Gentry; sister, Nancy Gentry; father and mother-in-law, L.D. McClure Hall, and Jean Hall; sisters-in-law, Shirley Gentry, Netty Hall Brannon, and Charlotte Hall; brothers-in-law, Randolph Hall, and Wyman Hall and Vernon Carder.
He is survived by his loving wife, Sylvia Hall Gentry; children, Ernest Joe “Joey” Gentry Jr., and Jason Gentry; siblings, Eddie Gentry and his wife Anne, David Gentry and his wife Juanita, Dwight Gentry and his wife Susan, Mary Carder, and Roxanne Kirkland; granddaughter, Khadijah Wright; brother-in- law, Fred Brannon; sister-in-law, Anita Hall; several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 8th from 12PM until 2PM at Thomas Funeral Home.
Funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, August 8th at 2PM from the Chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Reverend Kenneth Phillip and Jonathan Moss officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Chapel Cemetery.
