Charles “Tom” Thomas Ellison, Jr. went to be with the Lord on August 16, 2023.

He was born July 22, 1940, to Charles Thomas Ellison, Sr. and Mary Harper Ellison in Rockmart, Georgia. At the age of 12, he and his family moved to Rome, Georgia where he graduated from Rome High in 1958. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Air Force. After Basic Training at Lackland AFB in Texas he was stationed at Lincoln Air Force Base in Lincoln, Nebraska where he met the former Judith “Judy” Marie Gipson and they were married January 14, 1961. He returned to Georgia with his wife and small son after his discharge from the Air Force in 1962. He worked at General Electric Transformer Plant for over 30 years, retiring in 1996.

He was a longtime member of Garden Lakes Baptist Church. After retiring, he and Judy enjoyed traveling with the Garden Lakes Senior Group to Canada, Alaska, the Panama Canal, Hawaii, several Riverboat cruises in Europe and many other places. He loved his October trips to Gatlinburg to their condo where he enjoyed spending time in the hot tub and visiting with family and friends who accompanied them.

His hobby was working on computers. He was always willing to help a friend in need. At Garden Lakes Baptist Church he served on various committees and was a member of the Sound Committee.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Billy Phillips and a niece, Belinda Phillips. He is survived by his wife, Judy; his three children, David Ellison of Warner Robins, GA, Dean Ellison (Erica) of Kathleen, GA and Connie Mitchell (Sam) of Adairsville, GA; his three grandchildren who were the joys of his life, Taylor of Prescott, AZ, Jordan of Atlanta, GA and Dalton Thomas of Kathleen, GA. He is also survived by a niece Teresa Caldwell (Dennis) of Rockmart, GA as well as several other nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at 12:00pm at Garden Lakes Baptist Church with Dr. Jimmy Gentry officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at Garden Lakes Baptist Church from 11:00 am until the service time.

The family would like to express their deepest appreciation for the love that was shown through prayers, phone calls, cards, and visits. We would also like to thank Traditions Hospice and their care givers.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Garden Lakes Audio and Visual department.
