Oscar Max Wilson, age 90, of Centre, passed away Saturday July 29, 2023. He was a loving husband and father of three children.
Funeral services will be at 1 PM Monday July 31st at Perry Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tac Coley officiating. The family will receive friends from 11 AM until 1 PM Monday with services immediately following at the funeral home. Graveside services will be private.
Pallbearers include Matthew Wilson, Greyson Wilson, Drew Martin, Andrew McLarty, Roger Johnson and Bobby Brogdon. Honorary pallbearers include Jason Ledbetter, Myron Wilson, Steve Lindsey, Wayne Fain and Jerry Lee.
Survivors include; wife, Julia Wilson; his three children, Kathy (Bob), Keith (Rhonda) and Knox (Cathy); several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
Max was preceded in death by his father, O.B., and his mother, Jeanette, sister Betty John Angel, and daughter in law, Barbara Brown Wilson.
Max was born on December 23, 1932 in Centre to Oscar Butler and Jeanette (Coursey) Wilson. He was a 1950 graduate of Cedar Bluff High School. He received his undergraduate degree from Auburn University in 1953 and his master’s degree from University of Virginia in 1959. Max also served two years in the Army stationed in Anchorage, Alaska. He spent his career working for the George State Department of Education, where he played an integral role in bringing technology into the Georgia public school system. (Retired 1990). He married Julia Nadine Johnson (Cedar Bluff) in 1954.
Upon retirement, Max enjoyed the next 30 years helping friends and family make memories at Wilson Campground in Kirks Grove, Alabama. He was known for his outgoing personality and friendly support, shared as he rode through the farm and campground, and during his time spent at Wilson Store.
