Alvin Sylvester Chambers Jr, 57 of Rome, was arrested this week after reports said he was found illegally in possession of a loaded gun with the serial number removed as well as drugs during a traffic stop near the intersection of Paris Drive and Conn Street.
Police said that after stopping Chambers for failing to maintain his lane of travel and failing to dim his headlights they discovered that he was driving without a license.
A search of the vehicle then led police to find a loaded Highpoint 9mm handgun with its serial number removed as well as marijuna
Officers then discovered that Chambers is a convicted felon, thus not allowed to have a gun in his possession.
Chambers is charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm while committing a crime, criminal use of altering an Id mark, possession of marijuana, obstruction, carrying a concealed weapon without a permit, driving without license, failure to dim lights, failure to maintain lane and reckless driving.
