Mr. Neely Wayne “Butch” Wilson, Sr., age 84, of Rome, passed away on Sunday, May 21, 2023, at a local healthcare facility.
Mr. Wilson was born in Birmingham, Alabama on April 1, 1939, son of the late Kearney Brewster Wilson and the late Thelma Irene Allgood Wilson. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Babb Wilson, and by a great granddaughter, Kortlyn Potts. Mr. Wilson worked in maintenance at Coosa Bakery then at Mondo Bakery and later retired from Zardic of Rome. Most of his time was spent caring for and providing for his family, but in his spare time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Mr. Wilson was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include a daughter, Lisa Wilson (Lisa Potts); a son, Neely Wilson, Jr.; three grandchildren, Jamey Potts, Kayla Sharp (Dewayne), and Rachael Potts; three great grandchildren, Alyssa Godfrey, Ezra Sharp, and Kadence Potts; step great granddaughter, Jaelynn Sharp; two sisters, Juanita Gardner (Don) and Judy Shaw (Hobert); several nieces and nephews.
Graveside service will be held on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at 4pm at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Clifford Free will officiate.
The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, North Chapel, on Wednesday from 1:30pm until 3:30pm.
