Mrs. Gail Shankles Massingill, age 87, of Rome, Ga, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 2, 2022, surrounded by family at a local hospital.
Gail was born in Ft. Payne, AL, on January 26, 1935, daughter of the late Reuben Shankles and the late Lonnie Mae McMahan Shankles. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles F. “Bunt” Massingill, and 2 sisters, Peggy Witt and Carol Ann Gentry. Gail was a graduate of Kirkman High School in Chattanooga, TN. She worked as a construction administrator for the Tennessee Valley Authority for decades. After the passing of her husband and mother, Gail left her life in Ringold to build a life with her children and granddaughter in Rome. She was a strong, determined woman whose mission was to serve others when they could not serve themselves. She fiercely loved Jesus Christ, her friends and family. Gail was an active member of Shannon United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her children, Mike Massingill, Rome, and Amy Moser (Jim), Rome; her granddaughter, Elizabeth Moser Penney, Rocky Face; 3 grandsons, Kolton and Kade Penney, Rocky Face; Davis Maner Penney, Rome; sister, Elaine Watson, Rome; brother, Stuart Shankles (Lynn), Rossville; nieces and nephews.
In accordance with her wishes Gail will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at 1pm on Thursday, September 8, 2022, at her church, Shannon United Methodist, 600 First St., Shannon, GA, 30172, with Dr. Ken Freshour officiating.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 11:30am until service time at Shannon United Methodist.
At a later date, Gail will be interred beside her husband, Bunt, at Burning Bush Cemetery.
