Reginald Levoyd Whatley, 56 of Rome, was arrested this week after he allegedly broke into the home of his estranged wife while holding her against her will at gunpoint.
Police added that Whatley then forced the woman to go with him and purchase alcohol while threatening bodily harm if she did not do so.
Reports went on to say that Whatley then forced the victim to have sexual intercourse with him.
The couple had been married for 35 years but are currently separated.
Whatley is charged with aggravated assault, kidnapping, false imprisonment and home invasion in the first degree.
