Mr. Thomas “Kinney” Fincher, Jr., age 85, of Rome, GA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 2, 2022.

Mr. Fincher was born on July 27, 1936, in Rome, GA. He was the son of the late T.K. Fincher, Sr. and Thelma Fowler Fincher. He graduated from Rome High School in 1954 and furthered his education through off-campus courses. Mr. Fincher married Ellen “Maxine” Ingram Fincher on August 14, 1955, and they were happily married for 62 years. Mr. Fincher was Vice President and Secretary Treasurer of the Rome Seed and Feed Company. Mr. Fincher was a faithful member of the North Rome United Methodist Church for many years.

Kinney was an active member of the community serving on county committees and government boards. He was a long standing member of several civic organizations including the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Lodge #694, where he served as an officer, The Exalted Ruler for multiple terms. Kinney was committed to giving back to the community and was always willing to step in and lend a hand. An avid Braves and Bulldogs fan, Kinney enjoyed watching the games and was so excited to see them both win championships in 2021.

Many Romans knew Kinney through the Rome Seed and Feed Store. They knew they could go to him for advice on topics ranging from planting vegetables and fruits to canning them; from purchasing chickens and ducks to feeding and raising them; from landscaping to stocking your kitchen. When asked by Mary Deese of the Rome News Tribune (1999) if they really did have everything in Rome Seed and Feed, he proudly replied, “If we don’t have it, we can get it.” He believed ‘product knowledge, customer service and quality products’ set Rome Seed and Feed apart and the customers agreed.
